Potamalpheops sp.  is herbivorous in nature, will graze constantly around the tank. They prefer a well planted tank, and moss or Riccia will provide them with a snack, they will also take crumbled algae wafers, frozen bloodworms or brineshrimp, catfish tablets, blanched spinach, and zucchini and shrimp pellets.  

Potamalpheops sp.  is a small peaceful shrimp. Due to it's size it should only be kept with other dwarf shrimp.


Potamalpheops sp., while considered a dwarf shrimp, is classified under the Pistol Shrimp family  Alpheidae , not the freshwater shrimp family Atyidae. These shrimp get their "pistol" name from snapping their claws, another name for them is Snapping Shrimp.
