Heteropoda var Chocolate, also commonly referred to as Black Cherry, is an aquarium bred Heteropoda Shrimp color morph that is herbivorous in nature. In the aquaria, it prefers a well planted tank and moss or plants like riccia will provide them with biofilm for them to eat, but they will eventually also need to be provided with regular food such as algae wafers, catfish or shrimp pellets, or blancheds vegetables like zucchini and spinach. They will also readily accept frozen bloodworms or brineshrimp.
Heteropoda var Chocolate is a small and peaceful shrimp. However it is best not to keep any other members of the Neocaridina family unless trying to crossbreed. It can be kept with Caridinas and other shrimp outside of the Neocaridina genus. They can be kept in a community tank though shouldn't be kept with aggressive or nippy fish. Heteropoda var Chocolate is considered a color morph of the Heteropoda Shrimp, therefore it should be cared for the same. These shrimp, as well as Palemonetes Paludosus, are considered the easiest shrimp to keep in the aquaria. There are grades of Heteropoda var Chocolate as well. The color grades are as follows: Normal - Black Cherry or Chocolate, Sakura Black, Black Fire, Taiwan Black Fire, Painted Black Fire. In General, the higher the grade the more color the shrimp has, higher grades also have the color on their legs as well. There are many variants of Heteropoda.
