Caridina Spongicola
|
This shrimp was found in the Sulawesi, Indonesia Expedition. It is Endemic to Lake Towuti in the Malili lake system. In the wild it is found on and sometimes dwelling inside the oscula of an undescribed freshwater sponge of the suborder Spongillina that grows in Lake Towuti.
Caridina Spongicola is herbivorous in nature, will graze constantly around the tank. They prefer a well planted tank, and moss or Riccia will provide them with a snack. They are constant grazers on algae but if this is lacking in the tank supply them with algae wafers or a crushed flake, or shrimp pellets. Caridina Spongicola has very unique coloration and marking. It is the smallest of all of the recently discovered Sulawesi Shrimp. It is also extremely shy until it is comfortable with its new environment. Once it is acclimated to the aquarium it will come out more and its colors will really show. Once this species becomes acclimated and does not fear predators it will come out in plain site. It is fine companion to most community life. |
