This shrimp was found in the Sulawesi, Indonesia Expedition. It is Endemic to the Malili lake system; occurring in all three major lakes (Lake Matano, Towuti, and Mahalona) and in the Petea River. In the wild it is a soft substrate dweller, mainly found under dead leaves (leaf litter).

Caridina Holthuisi is herbivorous in nature, will graze constantly around the tank. They will eat algae wafers or a crushed flake, or shrimp pellets.

Caridina Holthuisi enjoys the company of other shrimp including those outside of its speices. It is safe for all community life.
